Fandom Wedding: Mallorn Tree

Finally done with the Mallorn Tree. Whew. That was a lot of wires.

Unlike real trees, mine started not with the root but with the branches. Then I had to attach each gold leaf on the wires before I could finally start on the roots. I used a lot of floral tape for this project.

Technically, this isn't done yet. I still have to place something on the jar's rim then place dirt(I'll be using glass beads) beneath the tree.

Might make a tutorial for this one. Hhhhhhmmmmm...

WIP: Miniature Mallorn Tree

"The golden leaves remained on the tree through the winter and fell to cover the ground in the spring, when new leaves sprouted, which were green on top and silver underneath, and golden flowers bloomed on the branches."

Such is the description of a mallorn tree, according to wikipedia. A couple of hours of wire-twisting and this is the partial result. I'll be attaching the tiny leaves one-by-one. I'm so excited!

Fandom Wedding: Flower Girl Baskets

I had a vision for it: rustic. It had to be made of twigs. It took a while but the bride(yes, the bride does some of the shopping for us) found some. A little bit of tweak, my origami signature there, and TADAH!

I only used half of a kusudama for this one. I would have used the same diagram as the one used on the bridesmaids' bouquets but the onion skin paper wouldn't hold its shape so I used the simpler diagram. The problem: it looked too simple and I didn't have the time to run to the nearest store and purchase beads. My solution: 3d fabric paint and metallic gel pens.

Opted to use organza ribbons so the colors wouldn't look too solid.

WIP: Scrolls and Stands

Still for the Fandom Wedding.

Made a couple of scrolls to serve as fillers for the LotR tables.
Sorry for the disgusting photo. It was raining the entire day so I had to use indoor lighting.
Wrote the story of Aragorn and Arwen(from Appendix A) on some parchment and stained it with instant coffee. My hands smell like coffee now. -_-

For the Star Wars table, I'm planning to put planet-themed stands. Each stand will dangle one planet on a hook. These stands are for 1 of the table. Tatooine and Hoth makes a nice contrast in terms of planetary temperature. Mind you, this is only the base parts. I'm planning to cover these in sawdust with Luke's house(Tatooine) and a Wampa cave(Hoth) on them.

Fandom Wedding: Invitation

Now, this is one work I'm very proud of. The challenge was to merge all 4 fandoms in 1 invitation design. Good thing I have my friend Karissa to help me with the brainstorming and the layouts.

So the basic idea is that Doctor Who gets the front page, LotR gets the interior (wedding entourage), Harry Potter gets the wax-seal-on-the-envelope-look, and Star Wars is the inspiration for the seal design.
The wax seal I hand carved on mahogany with Karissa's design.

I recently wanted to try out paper cutting. You know, those sheets of paper with lattice designs. I tried my skills on the cover and on the interiors corners. The key is always keep your blade sharp. I added a silver paper with blue splatters to make it look spacey-wacey.

The end result:

Fandom Wedding: Bouquets

So my friend is getting  married this October and she's having a four-fandomed wedding! That's Star Wars, Doctor Who, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

Finished the bouquets a month ago but, hey, I'm documenting.

She's having her bridesmaids represent the 4 houses of Hogwarts. I did the bouquets using the Kusudama Versailles diagram so it'll be easier for them to carry the bouquet around without actually holding it. Practicality and comfort is a must! Also, the couple had quotes printed on the paper I used.

For the Maid of Honor's bouquet, they wanted a techie color scheme(silver and blue). Quotes were also printed on the paper but this time, it's in binary(the couple are software engineers).

Let's Head Out!

So, this is where my adventure starts. Or rather, this is where I start taking down notes.

This blog will mainly be about my DIY projects. Now that I'm working part time, I have a LOT of--er, time.
Here, I'll be making a lot of experimenting with different materials and techniques because I work better that way.

Material of choice: paper.
Weapon of choice: my Tajima - Endura 3/8 Inch Blade Knives(and I'm not afraid to use it. bwahahahaha).
Website of choice: Youtube for learning, Pinterest for design ideas
