Fandom Wedding: Hogwarts House Scrolls and Books

So easy to make, so pretty to look at. *A*

Made them from canvas cloth lying around. I had Karissa layout the house trait over the house seal and had it printed over the paper I aged with coffee then glued it on the canvas.

Sewed on about a foot of black ribbon on the top part of the scroll so it can be rolled up for transport. :)

 

I have a bit of experience with bookbinding so compared to making it from scratch, this was a breeze. Plus! I have all those college textbooks(and a dictionary) lying around. So, rather than throwing them away, why not putting them to good wizard use.

I researched a bit about books used by Harry Potter then matched it with the books: Book of Spells (English Dictionary), Numerology (College Algebra), and Magical Theory (English and Grammar).

Got some embossing textile paint and scribbled the titles on the spines. For the numerology book, I braided some cord and stuck it on the cover then penned on some silver.

By the way, the cover colors were painted on since I still have a whole lot of canvas cloth(I stopped oil painting last year). Sanded  them after they dried to have that distressed look.

Bookbinding: River and the 11th Doctor's Journal

River Song's journal was a birthday gift for my friend. This was officially my first attempt at bookbinding from scratch. I had to hand-stitch the text block and everything. Thanks to Sea Lemon's Youtube channel!

Painstakingly measured every line for even-looking squares.

In the tutorial, they have the iron-on adhesive but I don't so I just used good old glue for the cover. The difficult part was getting the cloth in the grooves and niches. It took me about an hour to finish since I had glue the cloth bit by bit so that the glue dries enough that it won't get rip out while I work on the next niche.

After that, I had to hand-paint the color before I could stick the text block in it's final position. Whew, that was fun!

The 11th Doctor's journal, which I made for myself this time, presented a new challenge.

Although it has a few more squares to work the cloth around on, it has the metal Seal of Rassilon. I contemplated about having it custom-made somewhere but that will cost me a lot. Ended up engraving it on a thin sintra board surface, spray-painted it silver(not chrome) and painted the depressed parts with my sister's black nail polish. Looks good enough.

With that hurdle out of the way, it was smoooooth sailing all throughout. I now use this for any schemes worth putting into writing.

Fandom Wedding: Platform 9 3/4

This was so easy that I was having a problem choosing the materials I'm making it with. I can make it with cardboard, plywood or just paper. How about paint? Do I have to make a stencil or pencil it on the board and manually paint it on? Or print it? I don't have a printer!

That was me panicking. The answer to all those questions fell on my foot: a piece of sintra board.

All I had to do was spray paint it black then cut the letters from a piece of paper.

Simple.

Even though I was only going to stick it on the wall, sintra boards are lightweight enough to stay in place.
